Artist Statement

I intend to simultaneously create and solve problems within my work. Starting from parts, pieces, and raw materials - I ask myself how these components come together. Plan, disassemble, and reconstruct. Through the process of making, I balance the desire for disorder and imperfection, with a careful and attentive hand. I am curious about what comprises the soul of an object, and objects that are containers for universal meaning. Through an exploitation of a familiar form, I believe that meaning can be derived therein.

A perceptual shift about the way someone sees something is fundamental in my work. When something familiar suddenly appears mysterious or differently than expected. My work comes from a place of small wonders, covetable objects, and a concern about the people as well as the stuff that we cultivate, accumulate and maintain relationships with.
